Antonio Zambrini

pianist and composer from Milan .

His music seem to leave some traces, even in the European jazz scene.

 

Two examples:

 

English pianist John Law simply dedicated to Zambrini his cd "The moment", with Tim Garland at the saxophone, in 2002.

 

Italian pianist Stefano Bollani opens with a tune by Zambrini his solo album produced by ECM, the famous label in Germany , and published during 2006.

 

 

Zambrini has drawn the attention of the critics with his cd " Antonia e altre canzoni", 1998, Splasc(h) Records; this was favourably reviewed on several specialized magazines, in Italy and abroad, and was selected as one of the best first works by the jury of the "Django d'or" prize, patronized by the French and the Italian musical critics.

O n "Musica Jazz" magazine (January '99), Antonio Zambrini was classified by critics at the second position in the 1998 list of the best new talents of italian jazz.

 

His second cd "Forme Semplici", 2000, and the last one, "Quartetto", 2001, were furtherly voted in several categories in the critics referendum on "Musica Jazz", where Zambrini was confirmed as one of the best emergent talents also for the years 2000 and 2001.

Recently, Zambrini has been invited as guest star in different musical broadcastings by national Radio3 RAI ("Invenzione a due voci", "Jazzclub", "Radio3suite", "Piazza Verdi") . Some of his tunes have been selected for compilations in Italy ("JazzMagazine compiation ", "Radio Popolare compilation" , the "Scimmie Milan jazzclub compilation", "Musica Jazz compilation".)

 

"Due colori" (2003), and "Musica" (2005) are the latest releases, edited by "Abeat records").

 

Zambrini performed with Lee Konitz, Claudio Fasoli, Mark Murphy , Tiziana Ghiglioni, Enrico Rava, Nnenna Freelon, Tiziano Tononi, Ben Allison, Gabriele Mirabassi, Garrison Fewell, Ron Seguin, Emanuele Cisi, Stefano D'Anna, Bruno De Filippi, Javier Girotto,

William Parker, Hamid Drake...

 

He collaborates constantly with the Cineteca Italiana, Milan, for the improvised live sonorization of silent movies festivals.

 

He teaches in several different music schools; since 1999, he directs a summer course of improvisation and ensemble music by the "Stages Internazionali di Orvieto" (Orvieto International Stages). He's now teaching in Como Music Conservatoire
